Anoxia Treatment
Anoxia Treatement
Treatment and Preservation of Works of Art
Anoxia is a technique used to disinsect works or objects of Art. The principle of anoxia treatment consists of confining the infested object for a given time (around 3 weeks) in an oxygen-free atmosphere.
Its effectiveness has been demonstrated at all stages of insect development; it is also completely harmless to the art work.
This treatment consists of placing the object in a waterproof bag containing oxygen absorbers. The pocket is made with a transparent film welded to the heating pliers, with dimensions adapted to the object. Oxygen absorbers are micro-perforated waterproof pouches containing iron powder. When the pouches are opened in the pocket, just before closing, an electrochemical reaction occurs: the iron oxidizes and absorbs oxygen.
Atelier A2R offers its anoxia treatment services on site or in our workshops.
